About Us
Carl Meilahn began consulting for small businesses and churches in 1990 while attending the University of Texas at Austin. Since that time, he has continued his independent consulting while working in various Information Technology related positions. Carl has worked on multiple data and systems migration projects.
He has over 15 years of training, personnel management and IT management experience, in addition to experience managing short- and long-term projects including product development and IT systems migrations for various other companies.
Carl's areas of expertise are in "Wintel" infrastructure management, system administration, and network management. He is experienced and has proven ability in Information Technology Management:
- A proven record of customer service and IT staff leadership - Carl's team selected, installed and implemented a help desk solution which enabled end-user self-help through queries and FAQs, reduced response and resolution times for trouble reports by over 50%, increased technician availability, and improved internal customer satisfaction. He also proactively implemented a server monitoring system which alerted support desk personnel of errors on mission critical servers which increased availability and allowed technicians to address the problems before they were reported by end users.
- Technical and business management experience with non-profit companies and small businesses - Strategically positions organizations to evolve technically by driving "big-picture" change, and enlisting the support of subordinates and management to reach business goals.
- A strong background in administering a Windows environment - Extensive experience with Microsoft Microsoft and Linux solutions running on Intel-based desktops, laptops and servers from Dell, IBM, Compaq/HP, Gateway and Toshiba. Over 15 years experience building, installing and upgrading Intel-based systems for individual and business use.
- Network management experience, including Cisco switch and router configuration - Over 9 years experience installing software and systems in LAN and WAN environments supporting Client/Server applications. Installed and configured Cisco switches and routers throughout the corporate LAN, providing improved network performance, centralized management and control.
- Management/Lead experience managing small to mid size teams - Carl has been in IT management for over 9 years, including both technology and personnel management with teams ranging from 2 to 20+. Over 15 years of independent consulting for churches, small businesses, friends and family.
- IT and non-IT Project Management Experience
- Over 10 years of experience - managing short- and long-term projects including product development and IT systems migrations.
- Facility relocation, including planning, break-down & set-up - Responsible for planning and overseeing the relocation and proper setup of all aspects of the corporate data and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Server replacement, migration and installation - Responsible for needs analysis, system specifications, procurement, asset tracking and server configuration. Experience migrating Windows NT domains to Active Directory 2000 & 2003, troubleshooting and fixing improper domain migrations, and applying both computer and user based security restrictions using Active Directory. Integrated OpenLDAP and Lotus Domino LDAP with Active Directory to provide smoother cross-platform integration.
- Network design - Designed, installed and managed multiple LANs/WANs using multiple subnets containing between 5 and 500+ nodes. Connected remote offices via ISDN and T1 WAN links, provided remote user connections using RAS dial-up, PPTP and IPSec VPNs, integrated wireless LANs using 900MHz, OpenAir (2.4GHz) and WiFi 802.11a/b/g technologies.
- Educational Background - Carl graduated with a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995 and received his MBA from the University of Florida in 2007.
